Flystrike is a life-threatening condition in which fly larvae (maggots) infest a dog's skin, most commonly in open wounds, soiled fur, or moist skin folds. Signs include visible maggots, a foul odor, irritated skin, and lethargy. Flystrike requires immediate veterinary treatment; if any of these signs appear, contact a veterinarian right away.
